The Paperback Book Exchange will close for good on June 30.

The announcement was made via Facebook on June 1.

All regular size paperback books are $1 each, however there are exceptions, according to a Facebook post.

“There aren’t enough people buying books and that’s why she’s going out of business,” a store clerk said Thursday.

Judy Ostrander became the owner in 2012 after working in the store off and on for eight years beforehand.

Ostrander wrote on Facebook that it was her mother’s decision to close the store.

“I understand, it was a very tough decision for her to make,” she said.

In April, the shop celebrated 50 years in business.

Now that this store is closing, Mt. Pleasant will be without a dedicated bookstore.
