DENNISON The Claymont Board of Education will be interviewing eight candidates for the post of superintendent to replace John Rocchi, who has taken a job with the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center.
Two of the candidates are Claymont employees, and several others have ties to the Tuscarawas Valley.
Board members met in executive session Tuesday to review the applications for the job and decide which individuals they would like to interview, according to Cheryl Ryan, director of board and management services with the Ohio School Boards Association. She is helping with the process.
The eight candidates are:
n Jack Cunningham, principal of North Elementary in East Liverpool City Schools. He has been in that job for nearly two years.
n Michael Diamond, director of human resources for North Olmstead City Schools. He had formerly served as principal at Amherst Junior High School.
n Elizabeth DiDonato, who has been an elementary school principal for Claymont City Schools for more than 18 years. She is a native of the community.
n George Fisk, superintendent of Norwalk City Schools. From 1998 to 2007, he was a teacher in the Tuscarawas Valley Local School District, serving at Mineral City Elementary and the middle school in Zoarville.
n Scott Golec, assistant principal in the Rolling Hills Local School District in Byesville. He formerly served as principal at Claymont High School and Claymont Junior High School.
n Matthew McCorkle, federal programs coordinator for Washington Court House City Schools. He formerly served as superintendent of that district.
n Jodie Miles, curriculum director of Claymont City Schools. She was formerly principal of Claymont Intermediate School in Dennison.
n Brian Rentsch, superintendent of Frontier Local Schools in Washington County. He formerly served as principal of Ridgewood Elementary School in West Lafayette.
According to a job posting on the Ohio Schools Boards Association website, Claymont will begin interviews next Tuesday. A second round of interviews will be conducted during the week of July 2, and the board will take action to employ someone during the week of July 9. The new superintendent will begin work around Aug. 1.
