Fortnite Has Grown Insanely Powerful in Just One Year

Fortnite Battle RoyaleAfter nearly one year since its launch, Fortnite is being played by over 125 million users worldwide. The game’s publisher Epic Games celebrated the milestone this week.

However, experts think that Fortnite is a much powerful phenomenon than the outstanding player count can show. Analysts suggest that the title is changing the face of the gaming industry while having less than a year since its launch.

Epic Games first unveiled Fortnite seven years ago during a video game awards show. The game was supposed to be a survival game with lots of zombies and a touch of Minecraft play. The game also had an unusual cartoonish aesthetic.

After a prolonged period of silence, Epic launched the game in September 2017. The game had entered beta in July 2017. Meanwhile, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) was winning players’ hearts globally.

PUBG and Fortnite

PUBG is a very successful “battle royale”-type game. The mode implies that 100 players end up on a map with nothing of their own, but they get all the resources to fight one another until the last man standing.

PUBG became an instant hit because it was entertaining to play and watch at the same time. It was a mix of survival action game and online shooting. Plus, battle royale games are a story unto themselves even though the rules stay the same. As a result, the games are incredibly enjoyable to play and watch.

Epic had the idea of pairing Fortnite’s building mechanics with PUBG’s battle royale gameplay. Thus, Fortnite Battle Royale was born. The title became a huge success as people, including PUBG players, flocked to the new game. It was also quickly endorsed by celebrities which added even more to its overnight success.
