Dustin Johnson heads into the 118th US Open as the hot favourite to beat the likes of Justin Thomas and Justin Rose.

The American’s one and only major win came at the US Open in 2016 and he looks in great form after claiming his second tournament win of 2018 last weekend.

Thomas on the other hand goes to Long Island having finished in the top 10 just once in his last five tournaments.

Rose, 37, is also a former winner of the US Open, having won back in 2013 and will be aiming to become a two-time major champion.

There will once again plenty of attention on Tiger Woods and whether he can challenge for the win.

The 42-year-old has impressed since making his comeback in 2018, but is yet to return to winning ways.

But Woods has attempted to downplay any expectations, citing the fact he could barely walk this time last year.

“To play against these guys, the best players in the world, it’s just a great feeling and one that I don’t take for granted,” he said.

“I was just given the okay to start walking again [last June], to start moving around. I hadn’t been cleared to start lifting.

“It was about just having a standard life. Can I actually participate in my kids’ lives again?

“That was something I had missed for a few years, and that was the main goal of it.”
