An inner-cuty Wellington cafe gets the neo-noir treatment.

It's Wellington, but not quite as we know it.

English photographer Matt Towers has captured the capital in photos, but not the kind you'd see in the bright and bubbly tourism brochures.

Towers, originally from Middlesborough, said he wanted to create a project with a distinctive "dystopian, neo-noir" feel to it, appropriately called Dystopian Future.

Influenced by films such as Blade Runner and the neon landscapes of Tokyo, Towers wanted to make something that reflected what he had been watching and the news he'd been consuming.

The project poses the question: "How will our future cities look and feel? Rapid advancements in technology, nuclear war inevitability. A look into a possibility." 

The former project manager has shot other projects around the world, including in Brazil.
