Six passengers died after government bus rolled down into gorge in Ooty

The bus rolled down into a 100 meter deep gorge several times and immediately claimed 3 persons on the spot and 28 others injured.

COIMBATORE: In a tragic incident, six passengers including two women were killed and another 25 were injured, after a government bus which was on its way to Coimbatore from Ooty went off the road and fell into a gorge near Manthada in Nilgiris district on Thursday.

The accident happened near Manthada on Ooty - Coonoor road, while the bus was carrying nearly 40 passengers on Thursday morning. The bus rolled down into a 100 meter deep gorge several times and immediately claimed 3 persons on the spot and 28 others injured.

Injured passengers were rushed to hospital to Ooty, Metupalayam and Coimbatore. Condition of ten out of the 25 passengers who sustained injuries were in critical condition. Nineteen passengers were referred to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.

The District Collector Innocent Divya met injured persons at Ooty government hospital.
