GUWAHATI: Three persons were killed in the current spate of flood in Assam, with two persons losing their lives in a landslide triggered by torrential rain in Mahur area of state’s hill district Dima Hasao on Thursday.
One person was drowned at Bokakhat in
Golaghat district of upper Assam.
Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said that
Dhansiri river in Golaghat district’s Numaligarh, Barak river in Cachar and
Karimganj districts, Katakhal river in Hailakandi district and Kushiyara river in Karimganj district are in spate. The overflowing rivers turned the flood situation grim with nearly 1.67 lakh people in seven districts affected and over 1,300 hectare of croplands inundated.
The affected districts are Hojai, Karbi Anglong East, Karbi Anglong West, Golaghat, Karimganj, Hailakandi and Cachar.
Karimganj in Barak valley is the worst affected district with over 70,000 people affected in the deluge.
ASDMA officials said nearly 36,000 flood-hit people including 4,272 children have taken shelter in 116 relief camps.
NDRF and SDRF rescued 422 marooned people on Thursday. Nine boats have been deployed for rescue operations in flood-hit district.
