A 48-year-old riding a motorcycle was killed after being hit by a truck whose driver was trying to avoid a bad patch of road, at Doddabelavangala on Wednesday morning. The deceased, Vijaykumar, ran a shop in the locality, police said.
Around 7.30 a.m., the truck loaded with goods was on its way to Hosakote from Dobbspet. “When the driver came across a rough patch of road, he veered to one side. While doing so, the truck toppled over a passing motorcycle,” police said.
The truck driver abandoned the lorry and fled from the spot. A crane had to be roped in to lift the toppled truck while the biker was trapped underneath.
The crane arrived 30 minutes later. By the time the truck was lifted, the biker had died.
Doddabelavangala police registered a case of accidental death due to rash and negligent driving, and are searching for the driver of the truck.
