DADELDHURA: Police on Wednesday arrested a man and seized a deer carcass, a firearm and a Khukuri from his possession from a community forest in Ajaymeru Rural Municipality of Dadeldhura district.
The arrestee has been identified as Raj Bahadur Chanda (52) of Ajaymery Rural Municipality-3 in the district.
A team of police deployed from Ajaymeru-based Police Post under the command of Assistant Sub Inspector of Police Govinda Daga and arrested Chanda while he was returning after a hunting trip in Raniban Community Forrest along with a muzzleloader gun and six rounds of glass bullets among others from him, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Chakraraj Joshi at the District Police Office (DPO), Dadeldhura.
Dadeldhura DPO on Thursday morning made public Chanda along with the seized items and said that he will be tried under the Arms and Ammunition Act 1962.
Meanwhile, Chanda will also be tried under the National Park and Wildlife Act 1973, according to District Forest Officer Indramani Bhandari of District Forest Office, Dadeldhura.
Just a month ago a police team deployed from DPO arrested four persons and confiscated three muzzleloader gun from them in Ganyapdhura Rural Municipality.
According to DSP Joshi, police have intensified their action after a rise in complaints of illegal weapons and hunting in the district.
