Delay reduced from one hour to half-an-hour

Responding to grievances of patrons of Train No 16513 KSR Bengaluru-Karwar Night Express about slowing down of the train past Mangaluru during monsoon, Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd. (KRCL) has further revised the timetable bringing down the delay from one hour to about half-an-hour.

KRCL undertakes the annual exercise of announcing monsoon timetable for passenger trains on its network between June 10 and October 31 to avoid any untoward incident on account of heavy rain and related incidents. Consequently, the speed of many trains is restricted and the travel time gets extended. KRCL had also given effect to monsoon timetable for Bengaluru-Karwar Express.

As against the earlier notified monsoon departure timing of the train at 8.04 a.m. from Surathkal, the train now would leave at 7.27 a.m.; instead of 8.42 a.m. from Udupi, it would leave at 8.12 a.m.; instead of 9.26 a.m. from Kundapur, it would leave at 8.53 a.m. and instead of 10.42 a.m. from Murdeshwar, it would leave at 10.31 a.m. to reach Karwar at 1 p.m. instead of 1.25 pm, said a release from KRCL here.

Train No 16513 runs four-days a week on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. It would have its first monsoon timetable journey from Mangaluru on Thursday.

Highly critical about the original monsoon timetable, “Train No 16513/514 Bengaluru-Karwar-Bengaluru Users Association” has said that people travelling from Bengaluru towards Karwar would have to suffer the ordeal of late arrival for five months. Besides seeking continuation of the original timetable, the association had urged KRCL to further speed up the train.

MPs from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Nalin Kumar Kateel and Shobha Karandlaje too had written to KRCL urging it to lift the monsoon timetable for Karwar Express.
