AGRA/FIROZABAD: Police have arrested a 21-year-old man for posting objectionable image of Lord Rama on Facebook during Ramzan in Firozabad.
Identified as Shaheed Khan, a resident of Okhla village under the Narkhi police jurisidiction, the accused was booked under IPC sections 153A(Promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 295A (Deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation), 504 ( Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and IT act 66A.

The FIR was lodged by local Bajrang Dal member Munna Lal Kushwaha.

Kushwaha said, “At around 9pm on Wednesday, Shaheed posted a highly inflammable post against Lord Rama. Since it’s a Ramazan month, we took extra precaution to avoid any confront between the two communities and went to confront the youth regarding the post, so that it could be removed immediately. But instead of apologising, the youth threatened us of dire consequences and refused to delete the post after which we informed local police to lodge an FIR.”

After the police intervention, tension prevailed in the village as the police detained the accused youth for questioning. On Thursday afternoon, superintendent of police (city) Rajesh Kumar Singh visited the village along with heavy police force and members from both communities.

“The youth indeed had posted the objectionable content on Facebook using a forge ID. He had purchased a SIM using another person's ID card to intentionally provoke tension between two religious communities. He has been arrested and sent to jail.”
