Epic backups are being reported by people crossing the Ambassador Bridge to Detroit this morning.
Some callers to CBC News say it took them well over an hour to get across.
The company that owns the bridge said it's trying to find out what's causing the delays but is pointing the finger at U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
"We are doing some work on the Canadian side of the truck lane that goes to the U.S.," said Stan Korosec, the Canadian Transit Company's director of security and Canadian government relations.
But Korosec said that construction is not what's contributing to delays.
"U.S. Customs and Border Protection only has nine car lanes open, so things seem to be going a little bit slow as far as processing car traffic in the United States," he said, adding that normally 11 or 12 lanes are open.
He also said the back-up in the Nexus lane is noticeable.
Traffic is also idling on Huron Church Road in Windsor approaching the bridge.
CBC has reached out to American authorities but has not heard back.
