Thornlie house fire: Four-year-old boy dies in hospital

A four-year-old boy injured in a house fire in Thornlie on Wednesday night has died, just a week after he celebrated his birthday.

Police said the boy passed away just after 5pm on Thursday, after remaining on life support since being taken to hospital overnight.

Family representative Raul Alaiz said the boy was initially deemed brain dead when he arrived at the Perth Children's Hospital.

"He has passed away," he told reporters on Thursday.

"He is not responsive this morning. We're in the middle of organising for his organs to be donated."

Police said a report would be prepared for the coroner.

The young boy was pulled from the house fire along with his 69-year-old great grandfather Hugo Alaniz on Wednesday night.

It's understood a fire alarm in the house did not go off when the blaze started, and a member of the public reported the fire to emergency services.

Nine fire crews attended and administered first aid to both the boy and Mr Alaniz.

Both were unresponsive and were rushed the pair to Fiona Stanley Hospital for treatment.

Mr Alaniz later passed away as a result of his injuries.

The arson squad will investigate the cause of the fire.
