Just like watching parades, enjoying ice cream, taking a long-planned vacation or cooling off at the local swimming holes, Indian Valley Theatre’s children’s and teen workshops are a summertime tradition.
For 35 years, IVT has offered children and youth, from incoming first-graders to graduating high school seniors, a fun, safe and rewarding atmosphere to learn about theater and build their confidence performing.
Students are introduced to the many facets of theater, including building sets, props and understanding the basics of putting on a show. Not only do they rehearse the play, but they also participate in theater games and activities that introduce the basics of theater. Every child is cast in a part adapted to fit their specific talents and allow them to explore, imagine, create and have fun.
The children’s workshop is underway. Students in first through sixth grade will stage “The Knight of the Dragon,” a play written by Alethia Hummel, at 6:30 p.m. June 22 and
2 p.m. June 23.
The IVT Summer Teen/Tween Theatre Workshop for students entering seventh grade in the fall through high school seniors will be performed in July. This year’s show is “Alice in Wonderland.” Classes run from 9 a.m. to noon
July 16 to 27. Performances will be at 2 p.m. July 28 and 6 p.m. July 29.
All classes and performances are at the Sandwich Opera House, 140 E. Railroad St. in Sandwich.
The fee for the program is $90 a student. A workshop T-shirt is included in the fee.
