Shawn died unexpectedly on Monday evening, June 11, 2018, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was born on March 7, 1966, in Beaver Falls, Pa., the son of Donald and Barbara (Hutchison) Shuler. Shawn was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. He had a very patriotic soul and loved his country and honored the men and women who protected it. He was a strong willed and determined man who loved his family fiercely and lived his life to the fullest. Shawn was employed by Borgess Medical Center for 16 years. He loved being a nurse and treated all of his patients as if they were his own family. Shawn enjoyed woodworking, had a menagerie of animals on his hobby farm and was a devout Pittsburgh Steeler fan through and through. Shawn loved riding and traveling on his motorcycle, but his three grandchildren were his life. Surviving are his wife of 14 years, Karen Shuler; seven children, Zachery (Allie) Shuler, Erika (Steve Sheneman) Shuler, Benjamin Shuler, Andrea Ramsay, Jason (Lindsey) Ramsay, Holly (Scot Mullen) Smeltzer and Luke Smeltzer; three grandchildren, Austyn, Bennett and Connor; two brothers, Mark Shuler and Scott (Yvonne) Shuler; sister, Michelle (Greg) DeVitto, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Friends may visit with Shawn's family from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2018, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan. A service to celebrate Shawn's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at the funeral home. Pastor Gary Napp of Journey Family Church will officiate.
