A body of a female was found lying inside a Port Orange house that was destroyed in a fire Thursday morning, authorities said.

Early indications are that the fire does not appear suspicious, officials said.

Port Orange police and firefighters responded around 12:30 a.m. to a structure fire at 1002 Fourth St. and discovered heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the single-family home, according to Port Orange police.

Fire units from Daytona Beach Shores and South Daytona also responded.

The blaze was knocked down after 35 minutes and during a search of the house the body was found in a bedroom, according to police. Firefighters determined the bedroom was where the fire started.

The deceased woman's age and identity still had not been determined as of Thursday morning. The State Fire Marshal's office has started an investigation, but Capt. Aaron Mcilrath, a Port Orange police spokesman, said the fire doesn't seem to be suspicious.

The home is owned by Michael Burch, according to Volusia County property appraiser records.

An autopsy was scheduled to be performed Thursday.
