Charter Communications was fined $2 million by the state Public Service Commission for not expanding its cable network quickly enough in the state.

Charter is required to expand its network to provide more high-speed Internet service options to New Yorkers. The network expansion is required under Charter's 2016 purchase of Time Warner Cable.

The PSC said that thousands of addresses that Charter said it had expanded to were not eligible under the agreement, and threatened to fine Charter $1 million.

On Thursday, the PSC said that Charter failed to remedy the issue in time, so it was fining Charter another $1 million.

Charter has a $13 million agreement with the PSC that allows the state to fine the cable TV company up to that amount if the build-out doesn't happen quickly enough. The expansion is supposed to bring high speed Internet to 145,000 New Yorkers
