An exciting play at the plate turned into a bench-clearing skirmish Wednesday night between the Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Dodgers.
With the Dodgers leading 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning, Matt Kemp was waved home following a hit to right field by Kiké Hernandez. A perfect throw by Rangers right fielder Nomar Mazara had Kemp dead to rights at the plate.
So Kemp did the only thing he really could if he had any prayer of being safe: he tried to run over Rangers catcher Robinson Chirinos.
Chirinos held on for the inning-ending out, but he didn't take kindly to Kemp's maneuver. He shoved Kemp, Kemp shoved him back and soon the benches were empty.

In terms of baseball fights, this one wasn't too extreme and got broken up fairly quickly as cooler heads prevailed.
Still, the scuffle – which resulted in the ejections of Kemp and Chirinos – injected some old-school excitement into the somewhat-random interleague matchup at Dodger Stadium.
Postgame, it was revealed that not everyone got out of the minor skirmish unscathed: The Dallas Morning News reported that Rangers pitcher Chris Martin suffered a hamstring injury on his way from the bullpen to the mass of players near home plate.
