GLENS FALLS - Calling hours will be held Thursday for Charles Salaway, the retired State Police sergeant who died Saturday from cancer he developed after working in the recovery efforts at ground zero following the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks, State Police said.

Glens Falls.
State Police said Salaway, 55, was assigned to New York City to work on the search and recovery effort at the World Trade Center. A number of rescuers have been sickened and others have died from exposure to the chemicals that burned at the site for months after the twin towers were attacked.
The deaths of police and firefighters have been attributed to the toxins for yeasr.
Salaway is the seventh trooper to die from a 9/11-related illness.
On Jan. 2, Trooper Michael J. Anson died. He also worked the search-and-recovery effort at ground zero in the days after the terror attacks.
Suffering from medical complications, Salaway retired in October, State Police said. He was most recently assigned to the trooper' barracks in Wilton.
Salaway joined the State Police on Oct. 1, 1990.
