NEW DELHI: With the NDA government getting into poll mode, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday presided over a meeting of the council of ministers in which he sought scaling up of performance indicators of various schemes with the aim of benefiting a large number of people before he seeks a fresh mandate early next year.
The meeting of the council of ministers at the Parliament complex came in the backdrop of a string of bypoll reverses suffered by the BJP in the key states of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. After a gap of seven months, the Prime Minister went into a huddle with his ministerial colleagues following the conclusion of a campaign to reach out to people after the fourth anniversary of the government.
“The Prime Minister reviewed flagship schemes and sought closer inter-ministerial coordination for expeditious completion and roll-out of some of the schemes. The flagship Ayushman Bharat, which aims to cover 50 crore people, was also reviewed, as the government is readying for its roll-out soon,” a source said.
The thrust of the review was on scaling up the numbers of beneficiaries of various welfare schemes run by the Centre. Sources stated that the Prime Minister also took note of measures being taken by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare to address agrarian distress.
