Man killed, dozens injured after bus overturns in Patratu valley

Over 20 people were injured when a speeding bus turned turtle in Patratu valley on Ranchi-Patratu Highway after crushing a motorcyclist here on Wednesday. According to passengers, the incident took place when the driver of the bus tried to flee the spot after crushing a man on motorcycle. The status of many injured persons is said to be critical.

According to locals, the bus was en route to Bhurkunda from Ranchi on Wednesday morning when it ran over a person said to be taking selfie besides his bike. The motorcyclist died on the spot and the bus driver fearing locals’ ire tried to flee the site of accident speeding up the bus. However, he lost control over the bus soon on a sharp turn and the bus turned turtle.

Passengers said they events took place so fast that no one inside the bus got a chance to help them to safety.

Over 20 persons were injured in the accident, and were dragged out of the bus by locals, who arranged ambulances and informed the police for rescue.

The injured persons were immediately rushed to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, Ranchi for treatment. RIMS authorities said a number of injured were in critical condition and were being treated by senior doctors.

“About eight to 10 people are critically injured. A couple of them have suffered amputation of limbs and many have a smashed face and head injury. They are being treated with utmost care,” said a doctor present on duty at RIMS.

The bus was later pulled out with the help of a crane vehicle and police were investigating the real cause of the incident.

The deceased person was identified as one Aditya coming from Patratu to Ranchi.

Meanwhile, in another accident four youths riding a bike died when they hit a speeding passenger vehicle near Chanho on Wednesday evening. Police sent the bodies to RIMS for autopsy and their kin were informed about the incident.
