The Bandra metropolitan magistrate court on Wednesday remanded actor Armaan Kohli, 45, arrested for allegedly assaulting his live-in partner Neeru Randhawa, in judicial custody till June 26. The court also quashed the actor’s bail plea.

Kohli will have to spend time in jail although he approached the Bombay high court seeking to quash the criminal case with the complainant’s consent by amicably settling the matter with her.

Kohli was produced before the court after he was arrested from Lonavla on Tuesday. The Santacruz police registered a case against Kohli after recording Randhawa’s statement. She was hospitalised on June 3 owing to her injuries. Kohli’s lawyer Lakshmi Raman argued in court that section 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the Indian Penal Code is not applicable in the case. “He did not possess a weapon and section 326 is not applicable,” Raman told the court. The other sections applied in the case are bailable, the lawyer added. Randhawa, was also present during the hearing.

Raman informed the court that they have already approached the HC to quash the FIR as the complainant is willing to settle the case. After the court reman-ded Kohli in judicial custody, the defence applied for bail, which the court rejected. Armaan’s plea for quashing of the criminal case is posted for hearing before the HC on Friday.
