40% excess rain in State so far

The State has recorded 40% excess rainfall since the onset of southwest monsoon. As per the data released by the Meteorological Department till Wednesday, the average State rainfall was 35.2 cm when compared with the expected rainfall of 25.26 cm.

Though there was a drop in rainfall of 27% during the first week, it went up in the second week. When the first week recorded a rainfall of 7.36 cm, the following week recorded 27.84 cm as per the data at 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Palakkad received a rainfall of 114%. Idukki recorded 111%, followed by Wayanad at 99%.

Rise in rainfall in other districts: Malappuram 49%, Kottayam 41%, Kannur 31%, Ernakulam 23%, Thiruvananthapuram 25%, Kozhikode 20%, Pathanamthitta 11%, Kasaragod 10% and Kollam 7%. Alappuzha recorded 15% lower rainfall followed by 9% in Thrissur.

District-wise, Idukki recorded the highest rainfall of 50.31 cm followed by Wayanad at 42.17 cm. The rainfall in Kozhikode was 41.85 cm, Kasaragod 40.09 cm and Kottayam 40.05 cm.
