Rajkot: Three cops, including Bhachau police inspector and a sub-inspector, were suspended for negligence on duty following seizure of liquor worth Rs34.58 lakh from Sikara village of Bhachau in Kutch. Border range IG Piyush Patel who issued the suspension orders of the cops on Thursday also ordered immediate transfer of four beat in-charge and seven local crime branch officials.
“We have suspended three officials of the Bhachau police station and ordered a departmental inquiry against them as they were found negligent on duty,” Patel told TOI. “This is to set an example for other cops,” he added. On Wednesday, four persons were arrested with 9,540 bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) and 1,788 beer cans worth Rs34.58 lakh from the outskirts of Sikara village in Bhachau. The raid was conducted by the rapid response cell of Bhuj.
They had also seized a truck, two SUVs, two jeeps, one car and two bikes. Five bootleggers managed to give police the slip. The bootleggers were identified as Ashoksinh Jadeja, Bhagirathsinh Jadeja, Dharmendrasinh Jadeja and Kevalsinh Parmar, residents of Bhachau and Ravirajsinh Jadeja, a resident of Sikara village of Bhachau.
