LC polls: JD(S) wins South, BJP bags South East Teachers’ segments

The Janata Dal (Secular) and the Bharatiya Janata Party have bagged one seat each in the polls held to the Legislative Council from Graduates and Teachers’ constituencies.

Though elections were held for six seats of Graduates and Teachers’ constituencies, counting was still on for four other seats with the JD(S) leading in two and the BJP and Congress moving forward in the other two.

Marithibbe Gowda of the JD(S) has won from the South Teachers’ constituency, while his fellow party candidate S.L. Bhoje Gowda was leading in the South West Teachers’ constituency. BJP’s Ayanuru Manjunath was leading in the South West Graduates’ constituency.

In South East Teachers’ constituency, BJP’s Y.A. Narayanaswamy won by defeating M.A. Ramesh Babu of the JD(S) with a margin of 2,000 votes.

Meanwhile, JD(S) candidate in the South West Teachers’ constituency S.L. Bhoje Gowda was leading over his nearest BJP rival Capt. Ganesh Karnik at the end of the 10th round of counting. Congress’ Manjunath was trailing in the third position at 2,578.

BJP’s Ayanur Manjunath was ahead in the race for the Legislative Council Seat from South West Graduates’ constituency. He was followed by Congress candidate Dinesh as the first round of counting of votes was continuing.

Elections to the Legislative Council from different constituencies were held on June 8.
