Noida: Samajwadi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Surendra Nagar, accompanied by a group of local residents, held a press conference on Wednesday and said they won’t allow a waste plant to come up in Sector 123.

Nagar, also a former Lok Sabha MP from Gautam Budh Nagar, said some documents pertaining to the waste plant show that the Noida Authority had signed an MoU with Greater Noida Authority to use Astoli site for waste treatment but it later changed the stance to develop it in Sector 123. Nagar alleged that a lobby is working to shift the waste plant from Astoli to Sector 123 in Noida, because of an upcoming international airport in Jewar.

Nagar said the Union government and state government were making tall claims about Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, but the waste plant in a thickly populated area like Noida’s Sector 123 defeats its purpose. He said that if the waste plant comes up in the area despite protest, the Samajwadi Party will shut it down once it comes to power.

Meanwhile, the residents are also planning to file two-three separate petitions in NGT by residents of high-rise societies and villages. Guar City residents are also likely to file a separate petition before the NGT.
