Freezing embryos

I refer to Saturday’s Question Time (‘Unequivocal stand’) which asked: “What sort of effect/influence, if any, would the Irish vote on abortion have on the Maltese people?”

The parliamentary committee dealing with the subject at issue will meet again today.

Allow me to pose some questions. What are the possibilities of addressing the issue of the freezing of embryos (surplus) at this stage?

In Claudio Grech’s view, how can civil society organisations influence/bring about a change in the amendments at such a late stage in the process to ensure there is no ‘surplus’ of embryos to be frozen?

Does he think offering a third cycle to married couples will solve the problem?

Would this proposal be made for the wrong reason that is not really in the interest of the human embryo?

What if the couple think they are not in a position to do so?
