A new McDonald's will be built on Holliday after the old one is removed. Torin Halsey

A new, larger, more-efficient McDonald's is on its way, but the old restaurant has to be demolished first.

The McDonald's on Holliday Street has served local residents and hungry travelers since it was opened in August of 1978.

But according to franchisee Rick Boone, its time has passed and a new building is needed.

Boone owns three McDonald's in the area – the Holliday Street location, one in Iowa Park and the one on Greenbrier at Southwest Parkway.

The new restaurant should open in late September of this year and will feature 5,300 square feet of space, two lanes of drive-thru, a state-of-the-art kitchen and a self-service kiosk, according to McDonald's office manager Rhonda Raub.

Employees of the Holliday Street business have been spread out to the other locations, and several new employees will be hired when the new restaurant opens.

"It's sad to see the old building come down, but it's outdated and it was time," Boone said. "The new store will give us an opportunity to give the customer a better experience."
