The Kallambalam police have registered a case of unnatural death in connection with the death of a woman, who was admitted to a private hospital for delivery, on Monday.
Tension prevailed at the hospital at Chathampara, near Attingal, on Tuesday when the relatives of Sreeja, 21, of Nellicode, alleged medical negligence and laid a siege to the hospital with her body.
Sreeja was admitted to the hospital on Sunday and a Caesarean section was held on her on Monday evening.
Her relatives alleged that she was later administered a medicine for healing the wound without checking whether she was allergic to the drug.
She was shifted to private hospital in the city as her vitals began to worsen. However, attempts to revive her turned futile.
Hospital denies charges
According to the police, the hospital denied the allegations and claimed that all possible precautions were adopted before administering the drug.
The issue was resolved after the Varkala tahsildar pacified the agitators.
