Jharkhand Governor Droupadi Murmu today emphasized the need for developing facilities and providing training of international-standard to sportspersons for motivating them to win laurels for the country.
Addressing a two-day national training camp of Karatekas from across the country here, Murmu said Jharkhand holds immense potential for growth in the field of sports as many sportspersons from here have made the country proud by winning medals at international events.
Jharkhand is progressing in all sectors including art and culture, agriculture, sports and industrial sectors, she said.
Former World champion Kyoshi Glenn Stephenson and president of KAJ Goju Ryu Karate International has trained around 200 karatekas from across the country during the two-day camp, organized by Jharkhand State Karate Do Association,
Apart from being a medium of entertainment, Murmu said sports is an inseparable part of our life as it not only keeps one healthy but also inculcates discipline and enhances the confidence level.
Murmu said a person having confidence was also prepared to face any difficult situation in life. She said karate can prove helpful to protect oneself in adverse situations as it imbibes self defence techniques.
The Governor said a directive has already been issued to provide training in martial art and karate in all women colleges.
She also distributed certificates among the participants.
Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum, Amit Kumar and Senior Superintendent of Police, Anoop Birtheray, among others, were present on the occasion.
