Heavy rain leaves Kolkata struggling with water-logging and traffic congestion

One evening of rain has left much of Kolkata swimming in water-logged streets and over-flowing drains. As of today, parts of the city continue to struggle with standstill traffic and flooded roads as the water refuses to go down.
The Met office recorded 15 mm of rain in the city last night, with South Kolkata receiving more rain than the north. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore has forecast more rain for Kolkata today, which will eventually see a decrease Thursday onwards.
If pictures are to be believed, Kolkatans will not be very delighted about this news:

An advanced Southwest monsoon has already left Bengal in a mess. Yesterday, at least 10 people were killed by lightning in the state; four in Bankura district, three in Hooghly district, and one each in West Midnapore, Birbhum and North 24 Parganas districts.
On Sunday, a 21-year-old aspiring cricketer from Hooghly district was killed after being struck by lightning at Kolkata's Vivekananda Park during practice.
Apart from lightning-related deaths, there have been reports of tree collapses, electrocution and other rain-triggered damages as well.
