Stock market update: Sun Pharma, TCS, SBI among most active stocks in value terms

NEW DELHI: The counter of Sun Pharma (Rs 457.30 crore) was buzzing as the most active stock in terms of value on NSE in morning trade on Wednesday.

Tata Consultancy Services (Rs 345.88 crore), Indiabulls Housing Finance (Rs 309.80 crore), State Bank of India (Rs 219.92 crore), Lupin (Rs 202.80 crore), Tata Steel (Rs 142.06 crore), Dr. Reddy's Labs (Rs 131.88 crore) and Reliance Industries (Rs 114.69 crore) also appeared as the most active stocks in value terms in that order.

Equity markets were in the green as investors' optimism level was lifted by firm IIP data.

Industrial production in India picked up pace in April, starting the new financial year on a stronger note, with all three major sectors - manufacturing, mining and electricity - contributing to the recovery.

Growth as measured by the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) was 4.9 per cent in April compared with 4.5 per cent in March, data released by the statistics office on Tuesday showed.

However, market mood had a tinge of caution as the retail inflation rose to a four-month high in May, led by rising prices of food items.

Inflation based on consumer price index (CPI) stood at 4.87 per cent in May against 4.58 per cent in April.

Food inflation rose to 3.1 per cent in May from 2.8 per cent in April, according to a data released by Central Statistics Office on Tuesday.

The NSE Nifty index was trading 16 points up at 10,859, while the BSE Sensex was up 76 points at 35,769 around 09:50 am.

In the Nifty index, 23 stocks were trading in the green, while 27 were in the red.
