Salute to past playscape volunteers

As a group of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers work through the process that leads to a new community-built playground in Wright Park, I think it’s appropriate to once again acknowledge the efforts of the large group of volunteers, equally as enthusiastic and dedicated, that spearheaded the efforts for the original playscape 25 years ago.

Under the direction of General Coordinators Tina Beamish, Mary Ellen Cassidy-Goffnet (C.G.), Tammy Klifman and Deb McLaughlin and 18 committee chairs, over 1,500 Alma area volunteers came together over five days in 1994 to construct what was formally dedicated as “The Wright Place.” Over the years children and their parents adopted the name “Castle Park” to the wood playscape. I would guess many of those involved in “Rebuilding Alma’s Castle Park” played there as kids and have in the past few years brought their own children there to swing, slide and climb and use their imagination on the wooden structures that serve as reminders that we can accomplish much when we work together.

May the current group of volunteers be as successful as we were 25 years ago.
