KANPUR: Passengers of Garib Rath Express had a narrow escape when the train passed on a broken track near Magarwara railway station in Unnao on Tuesday.

The alert driver had spotted a gap in the track and lowered the speed, thus averting a major tragedy.

The train was heading towards Kathgodam from Kanpur Central when its driver felt a strong jerk and found a visible gap in the tracks. He lowered the speed to avert any mishap and then informed the Railway Control about the same. A railway team rushed to the spot to repair the track.

The route was closed for an hour for repair work, affecting the movement of many trains down the track.
