MBA graduate held for stealing from landlord

A 33-year-old MBA graduate was arrested for allegedly stealing 12 sovereign gold jewellery from the house of his landlord at Thiru Vi Ka Nagar on Monday.

CHENNAI: A 33-year-old MBA graduate was arrested for allegedly stealing 12 sovereign gold jewellery from the house of his landlord at Thiru Vi Ka Nagar on Monday.

Police said A Elamathi had stolen the ornaments since he faced financial problems and later confessed to the crime. A native of Thoothukudi, he was working in a private firm. He was staying in a rented house next to that of his house owner T Arivazhagan.

“Since his salary was not enough to run the family, Elamathi decided to steal jewels from his house owner. He sneaked into his house, when Arivazhagan stepped out to buy some provision at a nearby shop. As he left the doors open believing he would return soon, Elamathi took advantage of it and stole the gold from the safe and returned to his house,” said an investigation officer.

Police said Elamathi’s wife Sivakala scolded him for his act and told him to return the jewels to the owner. While he stepped out of the house, Arivazhagan had already came home. He rushed to his aunt’s house nearby and gave her the jewels, promising that he will take it back. After police was informed, Elamathi admitted to his crime during investigation and returned the 12-sovereign gold.
