NOIDA: DMRC wrote to the MD of Pashchimanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Ltd (PVVNL) on Tuesday to inform the district magistrate to stop recovery of money by freezing its accounts. The step was taken after the district administration recovered Rs 4.3 crore from DMRC as electricity tax after attaching one of its bank accounts in the PNB Rajiv Chowk branch.

The company explained that according to the agreement between DMRC and Noida Authority, the former is not required to pay electricity tax. “According to the MoU between Noida Authority and DMRC for extension of Delhi Metro to Noida... the said tax is not payable. Clause 14 of the MoU clearly states DMRC shall be exempted from all the taxes (as Property Tax, Electricity Tax, Advertisement Tax, Entry tax, Labour Welfare Cess) in the state,” read the statement.

Ajay Kumar, executive engineer, PVVNL told TOI DMRC has not been paying its dues since 2009 citing its agreement with Noida Authority but DMRC had signed another agreement with PVVNL the same year stating it will pay dues to PVVNL. “We are an independent body. PVVNL will not operate on the basis of an agreement with the Noida Authority,” he said.
