Rupee stumbles, down 11 paise at 67.60 vs dollar

NEW DELHI: The rupee lacked spark on Wednesday as it opened 11 paise down at 67.60 against the dollar.

The American currency found more favour with banks and importers.

Meanwhile, domestic stock markets opened in the green following mixed global trend. The Sensex added 142.92 points, or 0.40 per cent, at 35,835.44. The Nifty index rose 44.65 points, or 0.41 per cent, to 10,887.50.

Foreign portfolio investors turned net sellers on Tuesday as they offloaded shares worth Rs 1,194.43 crore.

Retail inflation jumped to 4-month high of 4.87 per cent in May on costlier food items such as fruits, vegetables and cereals, coupled with high fuel rates. It read 4.58 per cent in April.

The previous high in consumer inflation was in January this year at 5.7 per cent.

Another set of data showed industrial production in April grew 4.9 per cent.
