Tantrum Theater has launched its third season in Dublin's Abbey Theater, and we at the city of Dublin couldn't be more excited.

Tantrum Theater is a professional theater company supported by Ohio University students and is made possible by a partnership between Ohio University, the city of Dublin, and Dublin Arts Council.

From the actors to the people creating the costumes and building the sets to those working to manage the company, Tantrum Theater includes 91 members in its company -- 34 of them are student apprentices.

I view the Tantrum Theater model as a win-win.

We as a community win by getting to enjoy high-caliber theater shows performed by professional actors while the Ohio University students win by learning from those professionals.

Tantrum Theater's first show this summer is The Cake, running through June 24.

In a nation deeply divided on social issues, this new play by Bekah Brunstetter (NBC's This Is Us) is a delectable confection of humor, compassion and Southern hospitality.

It seeks to answer the question "how do we love when the political meets the personal?"

The theater's second and final play this season, Next to Normal, is scheduled to run July 11-July 29. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for drama and three Tony Awards, this emotional rollercoaster of a rock musical twists through suburban life in contemporary America with honesty and heart.

Examining one family's struggles with mental illness, medication, and grief, Next to Normal offers hope for self-acceptance even when nothing is truly normal. Tickets for Tantrum Theater shows cost $29.50 for adults, $27 for senior citizens (65 and older) and $12 for students.

In addition to Tantrum Theater, we are pleased to offer other great entertainment options in the coming weeks through our Coffman Park Amphitheater summer performance series.

These outdoor performances include School of Rock on June 14, the Heartbreak Orchestra on June 21, Magic Man Caroll Baker on June 28, the Toddler Theater on July 5, and the Adventures of Robin Hood July 9-13.

For more information about the performances taking place this summer, visit DublinOhioUSA.gov/abbey-theater.

And don't forget the 35th annual Dublin Arts Council Sundays at Scioto summer concert series takes place Sunday evenings through July 29 in the Scioto Park amphitheater, 7377 Riverside Dr., in Dublin.

The city of Dublin takes great pride in having all of these wonderful entertainment options to enjoy.

It's just another one of the many reasons why Dublin is such a great place to live.
