A case has been registered against the accused and the Rs 15 lakh cash extorted from the victim has been recovered.
HYDERABAD: A senior manager with ADP private limited was allegedly threatened by three of his subordinates who also extorted Rs 15 lakh from him for not having promoted them. The victim, a native of Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh, claims to have slipped into depression ever since the incident and was planning to leave the city in search of another job. His friends, however, supported him reach out to the police and the trio has been arrested.
Srinivas Marrimakulla (40) works with ADP at its Somajiguda office. He lives in LB Nagar with his wife, who is a doctor, two daughters and father.
Around mid-year 2017, Srinivas had to submit a report to his superiors on the performance of his team members.
Three members of his team, M Kiran Kumar, M Sanjeev and Sabunekar Ramesh reportedly missed promotions that year. Later, the trio learned their promotion was delayed due to Srinivas’ report.
Wanting to take revenge, the trio invited Srinivas for dinner to Sitara Hotel in LB Nagar under the pretext of discussing some official issue.
Here, Srinivas was allegedly beaten up by them. They also threatened to file a false police complaint against their superior under the SC & ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act unless he paid Rs 15 lakh to compensate their loss.
Worried, Srinivas paid them the money in two instalments and thought the issue was resolved.
Alas, his subordinates also forced him to quit from his job, which he obliged this March. Still, the issue did not end there.
The trio had taken a blank cheque and a promissory note from him as surety until he quits from the company. When he demanded that be returned, the demanded Rs 5 lakh more.
“At one point, I thought of leaving the city and finding another job. I was undergoing extreme pressure all these time and finally approached the police,” Srinivas told media on Tuesday after the police arrested the accused trio.
Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat said that the accused persons wanted to encash money using the cheque taken from Srinivas, but the latter has already got the transactions blocked with the bank.
