Vadodara: The old city area remained tense on Wednesday night after a man was stabbed near Champaner gate around 9 pm.
The victim Bhavin Choksi, who lives in Jagmal ni Pol in Bajwada area, went to a paan shop near Champaner gate on Wednesday night. Sources said that Choksi used to visit the paan shop regularly around this time. Eye-witnesses told the police that Choksi on reaching the paan shop hurled abuses at an unidentified man who was already present there.
The duo then got into arguments following which the man allegedly stabbed Choksi. Police said that the accused, who could be living around Champaner gate, fled immediately after committing the crime. Locals rushed Choksi, who was profusely bleeding, to a private hospital in Salatwada.
“There are possibilities that the accused and the injured person were familiar with each other, otherwise there is no reasons for the Choksi to hurl abuse at him immediately on reaching there,” said a police official.
Soon cops in large numbers reached the crime spot before the situation would aggravate. Additional forces from neighbouring police stations were also deployed in the area.
Police sources said that the case will be registered at the City police station once Choksi recovers and is in a state of mind to talk to them.
