HYDERABAD: Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 15 at 12.30pm in New Delhi. According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Chandrasekhar Rao will discuss with the Prime Minister several issues pertaining to the state. KCR will leave for Delhi on Thursday.
Chandrasekhar Rao had gone to Delhi and met union home minister Rajnath Singh on May 28. An appointment with the Prime Minister was sought but it could not be accommodated by the PMO that day as the PM was to leave on a foreign tour the next day. With Rajnath Singh, he represented the matter pertaining to the new zonal system that has been proposed for the state for employment purpose. That needs the consent of the President of India and the union home ministry has to approve it.

The chief minister is expected to discuss with the Prime Minister many pending issues pertaining to bifurcation of the state. Some of the issues are still to be resolved. During his meeting with the Prime Minister KCR is also expected to apprise him about the farmers input scheme that the state government implemented. Farmers in the state were recently given Rs 4,000 for every acre of land they owned so that it would help them buy fertilizers and seeds. At this juncture, what has become more important is getting the nod of the centre for using the MNREGA for agriculture work.

Under this national scheme which is aimed at providing 100 days of work for everyone in rural areas, villagers are given some work to do so that they could be paid wages. The chief minister has several times requested the PM to link MNREGA with agriculture so that the same work could be done in agriculture fields.

The meeting with Narendra Modi also gains some political significance in the wake of the efforts that the TRS president has been making to forge an alliance of regional parties as an alternative to the BJP and the Congress. Since he had met only Congress allies, the Congress party also alleged that KCR was actually working for the BJP.
