HYDERABAD: With admissions to
engineering colleges kicking off, parent and student organisations have voiced concerns over hefty donations being sought by many reputed colleges, for management quota seats.
Sources say many
colleges are demanding donations ranging from 5 lakh to 10 lakh.
This despite the fact that 84,124 seats being up for grabs this time around, as opposed to 81,186 seats that were available to candidates during the 2017-18 academic year.
While the management quota fee is on par with the convenor quota fee, parents alleged that college managements also are not following the merit system to fill up alloted management quota seats.
Parents allege that colleges are fleecing parents and ignoring toppers, allotting seats at their whims and fancies.
Raising concerns about the issue, members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha also submitted a representation to N Yadaiah, registrar,
Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTUH).
"Even though there is management quota and convenor quota for which there is a common fee, managements are not offering them for the fee prescribed. The college managements are making huge and unjust profits. This is causing lot of injustice to the merit students," reads the representation.
When TOI contacted the JNTUH registrar for clarification, he said such complaints must be directed to the fee regulatory committee or the
Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE). "We are authorized to affiliate the colleges. If at all donations are being charged by college managements, then parents and students can raise a complaint with the fee regulatory committee," said Yadaiah.
