Proposals for a pair of hotels in the Cemetery Road corridor west of Interstate 270 in Hilliard are scheduled to be heard at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 14, by the Hilliard Planning and Zoning Commission.

The commission meets at the Hilliard Municipal Building, 3800 Municipal Way.

Each application was tabled May 10.

InterContinental Hotels Group, whose brands include Holiday Inn Express, wants to build a 4-story, 92-room Avid Hotel at the former McDonald's site, 3900 Lyman Drive, at the northeast corner of Cemetery Road and Lyman Drive.

Heidi Rose of Bird+Bill, a civil-engineering firm representing IHG, asked for the application to be tabled after several commission members criticized its design. Bill Uttley, for example, said it appeared "institutional (and) sterile."

Hotel architects said the proposed design was the "modern look" that IHG desires but the owner, Raju Teli, said he would speak with IHG to determine if any changes were possible and if so, present them June 14.

The other proposal is from Tru by Hilton, which is seeking to build a 4-story, 97-room hotel at 3950 Lyman Drive, west of the Hampton Inn & Suites at the same address.

Tru by Hilton is seeking approval of a lot split, a sign package and a site plan for construction of a hotel; the lot split would create a new address for the hotel.

The application was introduced April 12 and originally postponed to May 10.

A third hotel proposal in the Cemetery Road corridor west of I-270 already has been approved by the commission and awaits final approval from Hilliard City Council.

Innsight Hospitality LLC wants to build a $12.6 million, 94-room TownePlace Suites, a Marriott brand, on about a third of a 5.6-acre lot at the former site of JD Equipment, 4079 Lyman Drive.

A second reading and public hearing for an ordinance approving the rezoning to allow for the hotel's construction was held June 11.

It advanced to a third reading June 25.
