Congress MLAs Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and S. A. Sampath Kumar filed a contempt plea in Hyderabad High Court accusing Telangana government of failing to comply with a single judge order that had set aside their expulsion from Telangana Assembly.
The matter is likely to come up for hearing on Friday before Justice B. Siva Sankara Rao who had passed an order on April 14 setting aside Telangana Assembly’s resolution to expel the two MLAs. The petitioners stated that the certified copies of the single judge order were passed on to the Secretary to Government Affairs, Law and Legislature and Secretary, Telangana Legislature Secretariat.
They contended that even after 45 days of the Judge’s order, the government failed to de-notify the announcement of vacancy in their respective constituencies on Telangana Assembly website. This had deprived them of the privileges and protocols available to the sitting MLAs, they maintained. Neither the State nor the State Legislature had filed an appeal against the single judge order. Describing the failure of the government to restore their membership of the Assembly, the two petitioners requested the High Court to initiate contempt proceedings against two officials.
