RCMP in Fort McMurray are investigating a suspicious death after the body of a man in his 30s was found in the middle of a gravel road Wednesday morning.

RCMP were called at about 5:45 a.m. about the discovery of a body on the access road that leads to the Abasand neighbourhood, said Cpl. Teri-Ann Deobald.

The victim's name has not been released.

The major crimes unit from Edmonton has been called in to help with the investigation, she said. RCMP say they don't believe the death was a random act. An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday.

The access road was closed for most of Wednesday but reopened around 5 p.m.

Police are seeking any information related to the man's death including any surveillance footage of suspicious activity recorded between midnight and 5:40 a.m. Wednesday.

More information is expected to be released Friday.
