PUNE: The city may get 20 foot overbridges as a proposal regarding the same is being discussed by the technical committee of the
Pune Municipal Corporation (
PMC).
“These facilities will be built on public private partnership (PPP) basis. The locations have been finalised. These bridges will help the pedestrians cross congested roads safely,” stated the proposal tabled before the committee.
A civic official added that the proposal after approval from the technical committee, will be sent to the standing committee. Once the green signal comes tenders will be issued.
“Commuting becomes a hassle for residents of congested areas. The local citizens and elected members have been demanding constructions of these facilities,” said a senior official of PMC.
The areas that have been finalised for building these facilities include Pune-Mumbai Highway, Ahmednagar Road, Magarapatta Road, Solapur Road, Kondhwa, Satara Road, Bibvewadi Road, Nehru Road, Baner Road, Aundh and University Road.
The city has 15 foot-over bridges. Many of them have been embroiled in a controversy due to lack of use. The citizens groups have raised doubts on the need of constructing these facilities, as the old one have not been used by the citizens.
