RANCHI| DUMKA: Two persons allegedly involved in the
theft of buffaloes were lynched early this morning in Bankatti forest under Devdand police station of
Godda district.
The deceased, according to Godda SP Rajiv Ranjan Singh belonged to Taljhari village under Podaiyahat police station of the district, who were caught red handed by villagers while driving away 13 buffaloes stolen from nearby Dhulu village.
Three buffalo thieves accompanying both the deceased namely Jirafuddin Ansari alias Charka Miyan and Murtaja Miyan, however managed to escape as soon as the villagers armed with bows and arrows and other traditional weapons started surrounding them.
The incident of cattle stealing from Dhulu village according to the reports had taken place on previous occasions also and villagers were alert enough to catch the thieves red handed.
Local MLA Pradeep Yadav said that there have been a series of incidents of cattle thefts in the locality and villagers were angry about the incidents. “At this moment I am collecting information about the incident but there is no denial of the fact that there was resentment among the villagers about repeated incidents of cattle theft,” he said.
"The villagers whose cattle were stolen sometime after the midnight raised an alarm by beating drums and hundreds of fellow villagers started to hunt for the thieves and cattle in the forest," said a police official adding that both the thieves were lynched indiscriminately by the furious mob.

lynching of two persons took both the dead bodies into custody and sent them to the Godda sadar hospital for post-mortem.
Police have arrested altogether four people in connection with the lynching. "One Munshi Hembrom was arrested first from Dhulu village followed by the arrest of three more accused" Godda SP Rajiv Ranjan said adding the criminal record of the deceased persons was also being investigated.
