After almost three decades in the Lakewood district, including the past 10 years as athletics director, Bo Hanson is excited about his next opportunity.

Hanson was named athletics director at Pickerington High School Central on June 11, replacing Scott Barrett.

"The Pickerington Central athletics director position is probably the pinnacle in this job in central Ohio right now," Hanson said. "This is a huge opportunity, a great opportunity. I was definitely interested when (the job came open)."

Central is coming off a year in which the football, girls basketball and boys track and field teams all won Division I state championships. In addition, the boys basketball team won a regional title before falling in a state semifinal.

Barrett resigned after four years to return to teaching. He will teach physical education this fall at Central.

Assistant athletics director Barry Niemeyer also stepped down for family-related reasons, submitting his resignation June 11.

Hanson expects to begin work at Central later this month.
