With neither side willing to budge from its position, the routine meeting between L-G Anil Baijal and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and senior members of his Cabinet, pre-scheduled for each Wednesday, was unlikely to take place, government sources claimed.
While Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, on Twitter, stated that he had not come to office on Tuesday, sources from Raj Niwas claimed Mr. Baijal was at work throughout the day and, in fact, occupying the room adjacent to the visiting room where Mr. Kejriwal and his colleagues continue to stage their sit-in protest, which happens to be his official chamber. Mr. Sisodia said, “L-G Sahab, chief minister and three ministers have been waiting for you in your waiting room for 24 hours, hoping that you [the LG] will do something [on our demands] while one minister is on hunger strike [sic].”
Government sources privy to the discussion between Mr. Baijal and the Cabinet claimed it revolved around Mr. Baijal making the point that he was a Constitutional functionary and the relationship between the political executive and the bureaucracy was, at most, between the CM and the Chief Secretary to deliberate upon and should seek to “restore the faith of officers in the elected government”.
