Three persons employed at an IT firm in Somajiguda were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting and threatening their manager and also extorting ₹15 lakh from him. According to L.B. Nagar police, the accused identified as Sabunekar Ramesh, Muthyala Sanjeev Kumar and Madari Kiran were working as analysts in the IT firm. They were of the opinion that the victim, Srinivas Marrimakulla, was not promoting them. Angered by this, the accused invited the victim to a hotel last September to talk to him. They then allegedly beat him up after which they threatened to implicate him in a Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes atrocity case if he did not pay them ₹15 lakh.

Police said Mr. Marrimakulla gave in to the demand and paid ₹15 lakh on two occasions ₹ 5 lakh in October, 2017 near the Hyderabad High Court and ₹10 lakh in Kachiguda.

The trio then allegedly demanded that the victim resign from the IT firm and handover a blank cheque to them. Mr. Ramesh then allegedly demanded that the victim pay ₹5 lakh for the cheque to be returned.

On Tuesday, the police arrested the three accused and recovered ₹15 lakh, a promissory note and a cheque from their possession.

The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the IPC.
